Active Sensing
Drone Lidar is differnt that Drone Photogrammetry in that is is an active form of detection which reduces the requirement for ground control points for topographic shots. This makes it far more suited for obtaining topographic data in wooded areas where ground visibility is limited.
RTK/PPK
Our Drone Lidar Technology utilizes RTK data capture with PPK redundancy during processing. This ensures the most accurate data that can be obtained. CT Aerial Drone Surveys also utilizes a base station on site to help ensure the most accurate data possible.
Can cover large areas
CT Aerial Drone Surveys equipment allows us to cover 200± Acres in a day depending on site conditions and required ground sampling distance. being able to collect such large areas in a quick duration it allows us to turn out the deliverables very quickly.

Our Lidar unit is also equipped with a 20 MP camera with a mechanical shutter. This allows us to obtain a ground sampling distance of about 0.04' utilizing the same processing techniques for Drone Photogrammetry. This allows us to obtain accurate 2D locations on open areas as well a accurate topographic data in wooded on the same site.
Access to more data
With Drone Lidar it can easily access areas or portions of the property that would be impossible to access by foot or just not safe. This can include steep mountain sides where the field crew can not obtain specific data along the slope or go near the edge for safety reasons, or areas blocked off by dense vegetation or even fences. The drone can still collect data in these areas.
Amount of Data and repeatability
With how Drone Lidar is obtained and processed it is something that can be repeated and duplicated. This is important in the world of surveying as results need to be able to be verified. Typically in open areas the ground sampling distance for topography will be between .05"- 3" depedning on flight parameters and desired sp, this type of density is not something that would be done traditionally by a surveying crew. This will help assuring the most accurate contours and surface model possible.
